# Metrics Drains

# Overview

Metric Drains lets you route metrics for [Apps](https://www.aptible.com/docs/core-concepts/apps/overview.md) and [Databases](https://www.aptible.com/docs/core-concepts/managed-databases/managing-databases/overview.md) to the destination of your choice. Metrics Drains are typically useful to:

* Persist metrics for the long term

* Alert when metrics cross thresholds of your choice
